NEW INTERVIEW OVER AT THE VILLAIN’S CORNER

Last Friday I recorded a new interview with the god folks over at the Villain’s Corner podcast. Some of the hosts were already fans, and some were new to SF, so the variety of questions was pretty good. We talked about lots of things, including SuperFogeys Origins, how I came up with the Space Pig, layers in storytelling and what’s in store for your favorite Fogeys next.  Also featuring a special appearance from cartoonist Lucas Turnbloom.

You can download or give it a listen here. I had a ton of fun and hope to visit them again someday.

MOVIE WEEKEND

My wife was out of town this weekend with some friends, so I played the part of the single dad for my girls, Elora (7) and Cami (4). This nicely coincided with the release of Where The Wild Things Are, so I took Elora out for some lunch and movie while Cami stayed with her grandparents.

I wasn’t really sure how Elora would respond to WTWTA because I had heard that it kind of like a kiddie art film that played better for adults. I’d even heard that some were calling it “boring.”  If you haven’t seen, don’t listen to the naysayers and make your own judgements. Elora and I were both glued to it, and she was laughing along the whole time.

The next day, I introduced Elora and Cami to Home Alone, which I hadn’t seen in at least 12 years. Cami is rarely able to sit through an entire movie, preferring to go exploring every few minutes unless she’s really, really tired. Home Alone entranced her. Elora, fearful at first based on my description of the film (“See, it’s about this kid, right? His whole family goes away to France on vacation, but they accidentally leave him behind. So, he’s stuck alone in the house and there are these two thieves who are trying to break in and steal all their stuff. The kid does his best to stop them, all by himself. It’s about that. You’ll love it.”), warmed up to it within minutes and responded in a way that reminded me of how audiences took to it when it was first released. Remember how nuts the theater went? I had forgotten until now.

Also, on my own, I checked out The Brothers Bloom.  Cute movie, but I think it needed another rewrite. The most fascinating character in the movie (Steven, played by Mark Ruffalo) is given short shrift.

SUPERFOGEYS ORIGINS UPDATE

Krishna Sadasivam is a machine, my friends. Over the weekend he turned in the thumbnails to the Origin tale debuting Nov. 3rd, “Spy Gal vs. Star Maiden.” He expanded the story to three pages instead of two, which I am only too pleased about. He’s got a real knack for fight scenes (which I did not know and I’m not sure he did either) and I can’t wait to see the finished product.

Also last week, Rossana Bugini–an Italian artist with no background in webcomics–turned in her final inked pages for “The Six Wives of Captain Spectacular,” a nine-page story that you’ll get the chance to see just as soon as it’s colored, which is going on now.

T.L. and I also started looking ahead to our next story together and we’ve landed on “Harvey the Science Rabbit.”  It’s a cute, dark little story that we’re very much looking forward to sharing with you. I know a lot of you want to know more about Harvey and his connection to Dr. Rocket.  Don’t worry, it’s coming.

See You on Thursday with SuperFogeys 230!
