Welcome back? Did you miss us? I know it was a short hiatus (only one week), but there’s just something wrong about a week without SuperFogeys.
THE EYE PATCH
I’ve been looking forward to revealing the significance of Sam’s eye patch ever since we made the jump to one year later. This harrowing tale of the three little girls Sam couldn’t save is, for me, the most important of the stories we skipped over (yes, there are more, but I wouldn’t count on seeing them anytime soon–I created them only to make sense of where everyone was at the beginning of the One Year Later storyline).
WEBTOON UPDATE
For those of you who don’t know, Webtoon is the biggest webcomic site on the internet with hundreds of thousands of viewers every day. Over the past two months, I’ve been posting SuperFogeys and SuperFogeys Origins episodes pretty much every day. This week, we soared past 400 subscribers (as of this writing there are 432) and we haven’t even hit Chapter 12 yet. That’s over 400 new fans!
I know Webtoon is basically living in the past at the moment, but if you don’t mind lending SF some support, please consider registering and subscribing, maybe even giving us a like or a comment or two. It’s actually a lot of fun to read the reactions of new fans who are getting into SF at an accelerated pace. I’ve been especially surprised by those who are STILL doubting the Jerry-Dr. Klein-Third Man revelation, even 2 or 3 chapters later. People were really pulling for Jerry and Spy Gal to get together.
See you on Wednesday with 779 – The Only Failure!
Jerry’s listening to the story ?!?
Almost makes me wonder what he heard about it at all ?
What indeed.
Sam keeps confirming why I feel he is the most misunderstood and broken of the bunch. Makes you want to wrap your arms around the guy and cry with him for a while.
I’ve always been so pleased how people have taken to Sam. He was a late addition to the main group, but it feels like he’s been there all along.
I think why Sam is so loved is why he and Mega Matt both were loved for a while- just on different ends of the spectrum. Matt, because while he was still playing his part, was the comic book lover. Not the “geek”, no- the guy who genuinely gets excited for each new issue. But he’s JUST some guy. Nothing super about him. He was the audience avatar for the love of the medium. Sam, on the other hand is the most relatable as a PERSON, even though he is superhuman. He’s had ups, and so many downs, but keeps on moving. Rather like Superman or Spider-Man, really.
Dang. I’ve been trying to figure out why Mega Matt went down in popularity and you finally cracked the code for me. I went back to his earlier appearances and sure enough he was more of a geek on a constant high from being surrounded by superheroes. I got away from that in the characterization and he became much less likable. The good news, my final plans for Mega Matt will steer him back towards more of a fanboy type. Something to look forward to!
I absolutely do. He’s still my buddy. 🙂
I’ve taken to Sam, mostly because I can identify with his feeling of being a failure. The feeling that no matter how hard you try, you’re going fall flat and wondering if you’re going to have the will and the energy to get up one more time.
I had to learn to take the little victories and add them up to larger ones, a day at a time. Sam will get there too, I hope
Sam needs a hug… 🙁
So the jewels are their birthstones right?
You know… I think they are! And I think that was Marc’s addition to the original idea years ago when we first designed nu-flavor Sam.
No joke, I did not realize they were jewels at all until recently- my first impression was lost-eye-with-a-James-Bondish-gadget-in-the-patch when I saw those colors. This though- much better. Continue toying with my expectations, please!
Oooh, Jerry was listening, and seems to have cried a little. For someone who just threatened to dump Michelle in space, interesting…
Jerry is a complicated fellow. VERY complicated.
My take on Jerry is that no matter how compromised he becomes, he always thinks of himself as a hero, and always holds himself and others to the standards he feels a hero ought to live up to. Those aren’t necessarily the standards everyone *else* would have for heroism, of course.
That is so spot on with how I think of Jerry as well.
