Ever wondered what happened to all of Captain Spectacular’s money? Well, now you know! This conversation is a real blast from the past. It seems so, so long ago since the Fogeys battled that giant robot on the streets of Las Vegas. A LOT has changed since then. A whole heckuva lot.
THE CONTROVERSY OF “THE BIG SLAP”
I don’t know if everyone saw it, but Monday’s strip, “The Big Slap” generated a small amount of controversy. It seems that half of you felt like Jerry finally got was coming to him, while the other half felt like Spy Gal crossed a line. I loved the debate and certainly have my thoughts (which I offered up in part). If you haven’t weighed in, go for it! It’s a more than worthy topic as SuperFogeys heads into its final chapters. If you think the story we’re telling here is always, always going to come back to Jerry in some way… well, you’re right.
CHRISTMAS HIATUS
Our Christmas hiatus is coming a bit earlier this year for one very special, unfortunate reason… Marc’s Cintiq is broke! For those of you who don’t know, The SuperFogeys has been all digital for a the past couple of years and with Marc’s major piece of hardware (and the source of his livelihood in for repairs for the next few weeks, we figured we’d just start our regular Christmas break a little earlier than usual. It’s unfortunate, but we hope everyone can understand. We’ll return on January 1st, 2018.

I like this strip a lot. CS did have time to ponder what to do with his life, all that time with Zurida, and I can see that he is the most at sync with his counterpart.
The only thing that bothers me is his calm referring to the loss of her bride. Was the love he felt for Spygal that little? And his love for Jerry greater than that? I believe that Michel is his true love, and I like that, but besides that one time that he was mopping at Spygal’s room after Vegas, captain hasn’t really expressed his thoughts on Spygal and Jerry’s marriage.
BTW what happened to Avalon’s atomic fly?
Alt Atomic Fly died when Alt Mommie self detonated at the alt Society of Heros (I think).
Jerry you should take a moment to think about how your alternate died in an act of selfless self-sacrifice… and you… welll… just think about it.
Romi is right about Alt Atomic Fly.
Cap is not the most introspective guy. The marriage of Jerry and Spy Gal gave him a moment, as you rightly pointed out, but he’s not the kind of guy like, say, Soviet Sam, who gives a lot of attention to his state of being. You may not remember, but Cap was in a pretty bad state after the wedding. Not only did he mope in Spy Gal and Jerry’s room, he also drank a lot and generally punished himself for losing Spy Gal. It lasted a couple of chapters, and then events took him away from that, with the torture in Zurida’s Palace acting as a sort of culminating experience.
This is why I’m excited for the SF Hardcover Collection to come out, to give everyone a chance to read it all at once.
Oops. I haven’t announced that yet… (At least, I don’t think I have…)
Which reminds me about the events of the Battle for Fresno and the little info we have from that…

Wait wait wait…. This is going to be a thing? I am SO excited! I already have all the Schlock Mercenary books I can get my hands on and this is THE other series I’d like on my bookshelf! š
I wouldn’t mind a Jerry/Atomic Fly friendship….mainly because Fly is my favorite character and I’ll take any excuse for him to be in it more. Plus, I think they’d probably have pretty good comedic chemistry.
Another Atomic Fly fan! He’s one of my faves as well. And you are so, so right–an Atomic Fly/Jerry friendship would be friggin’ hilarious. It may still happen!
I’m waiting for the day Jerry becomes the Fourth Man. The ticking time bomb will finally explode and he’ll just lose it.
Nah, we’re skipping right to the Fifth Man. He’s an amorphous blob embued with the bitter soul of Jerry and able to cross the transdimensional railways to possess the bodies of his alternates selves who have yet to ascend to the higher plane he achieved after getting bounced from Hell and sneaking in through the pearly gates with a stolen “good works” visa.
All of this will be covered in the SuperFogeys epilogue.
