Y’know, Soviet Sam is not one of those characters I really ever planned on adding to the cast. He was introduced in the Society of Heroes origin story as an atypical, regretful villain. His instant horror at having killed in the midst of battle was something I’d never seen before, so I thought it would be interesting to try it out. I didn’t expect him to resonate so much with readers, but when he did I saw an opportunity to bring him into the present continuity.
And I’m so glad I did. As it turns out, I have a lot to say with Soviet Sam. There’s what’s going on right now, sure, but also what’s ahead. It’s through Sam that in the next chapter we’re finally going to explore what happened during the missing year (I bet you all thought I’d forgotten about that), at least a little. You’ll find out how Sam lost the eye, but there’s so much more to it. I’m excited to get to that stuff, finally.
See you on Wednesday with 719 – It’s Easy When You Know How!
Sam was a throwaway character, eh? Glad you kept him.
I second this notion.
Also, quick! Pop Alt Tangerine’s arms off! And smash them.
Now kiss.
Btw, this link here http://www.th3rdworld.com/web-comic/The-SuperFogeys used to come to this site, now it seems it got crosswired with Gossamyr
Shoot. Wasn’t aware of that. Thanks!
I do wonder if there’s an earth where Soviet Sam and Spy Gal got together ?
If you believe in the infinite possibilities of the multiverse… then definitely yes!
What, Sam wasn’t always going to be a big deal? That’s nuts because Sam is awesome.
I really wasn’t ever looking to add anyone to the main cast after Tangerine. He was it in my mind. But then Sam came along and embodied so much of what SF is all about. It’s weird to go back and read the old strips and not see him there. He didn’t get a proper introduction in the present time continuity until the beginning of Chapter 12!
Just want to chime in with a “hear, hear!” for keeping Sam. He’s always seemed a bit unusual for a supers comic, but he embodies the basic humanity (humane-ness?) that is usu. lacking in these comics. OTOH, SF itself is not your usual superhero comic, so it makes sense.
Still think Spy Gal should have held off long enough for Sam to snap Alt-Tangerine’s arms off and stick ‘me where the sun don’t shine…
