I’m a little late with this post (as per usual lately) so there’s already quite a few comments on this strip and more than a little confusion. Jerry is by far my favorite character to write simply because his psychology is so complex. He constantly surprises, but at the same time I don’t think his motivations are ever a great mystery. Jerry is Jerry. We know his deal. And yet… stuff like this.
It surprises me, too.
See you on Monday with 679 – “The Design of His Life”
Wait…what?
Heh.
Okay…not the reaction I was expecting.
That’s the way we like it around here.
WHAT?!?!?!
After reading this again, it seems that even Thrice is surprised by Jerry’s reaction. Nice touch!
… That, and the “friends call me Bruce” dialogue. Priceless.
Thanks for noticing that. Yes, Bruce is just as surprised as all of you.
This is… strange.
Your comment is… appropriate.
Jerry has been twisted by this guy his whole life. He was only helping the forces of good because they were blatantly appealing to his desperate, unbalanced desire to be the main guy. Doesn’t surprise me that he would flake out and switch sides away from the people he has been resenting for decades.
You make good points, but I’m not so sure that’s what THIS is. Remember too- Jerry is very much an opportunist and very, VERY impulsive too.
Either way, you’ll both know very, very soon.
‘s been awhile since the old fashioned SF curveball…
Too long, in my opinion. We’ve gotten through a lot of character work and exposition the past couple chapters. Next chapter should be more action-packed. Maybe some more curve balls in there, too!
Yeah, this is quite surreal.
Jerry is just… he’s just fun that way.
This is awesome, I love it. Every panel made me laugh.
Awesome.
Um..er…bwah?
If I didn’t know that Jerry was a totally twisty kind of guy who plays both ends against the middle of a Mobius curve drawn by Salvador Dali, I’d be worried right now.
But I don’t predict this comic anymore. Really. I just don’t.
Oh my gosh, I love everything about your second sentence.
Bruce eh? Meh he’ll always be Indy to me.
Wonderful memory.
I think they’re both manipulating each other. But the author could just be messing with me.
I’m willing to accept that they have much in common, but if I were a villain, I would definitely never trust anyone that had anything in common with me.
That’s an excellent point. You’re right–they do have lots in common, but, in this case, that is not a good thing.
Aaaauuuugh. I come back almost 12 months later hoping it’s updated, and get THIS. AAAAAAUGH. I’m excited there were a lot to read, but I’m hoping Jerry is just using this moment to manipulate and screw over Thrice Evil. He’s gotten good at the manipulation game using it on the heroes, and it’s become almost the go to tool for him before the whole world came crashing down. Who’s to say he’s not using it here? If he’s indeed turned sides with a legitimate evil to work with, it proves once and for all that Earth-Abaddon is where goodness goes to get smothered out of good people. A sad tale, that may lead to a sadder conclusion. I still say Jerry is a case of terrible influence and stacked decks.
Glad to have you back! Don’t stay away so long next time!
You’ll know what, if anything, Jerry is up to very, very soon. But, either way, this story is far from over.
Somehow, this is not surprising to me. Jerry has so far been ever on the side of Jerry. And yet, isn’t that human nature in the extreme?
But the story is far from over where Jerry, and the two worlds, is concerned. .I have ideas, but await the masterful unfolding regardless.
I especially appreciate the deft sleight-of-hand use of humour here creating a breath’s beat of pseudo-normality as the eye-of-the-storm breaking explosively over both worlds.
Thanks for the kudos!
And you’re right, in a lot of ways Jerry represents the basest form of humanity–entirely self-interested and yet convinced he’s anything but. The question of The SuperFogeys is this:
Can he pull out of it?

HAH! I like it! That was awesome. ANOTHER!
