For those wondering, Dr. Rocket’s look here in One Year Later is based on Dr. No’s from the first James Bond film, “Dr. No.” What he’s wearing is called a nehru jacket.
Apologies for my lack of engagement last week. You know those weeks you have that are just kind of awful and don’t leave you with much energy to do your normal stuff? Yeah, I had one of those weeks. I expect to be back in fighting shape this week. I’ll probably double back today and see if there are any comments that need to be addressed from last week’s strip.
Wednesday: We check in with Zurida and Dark Maiden one year later. Featuring an unexpected cameo… if you can spot it!
Curses! I was so close! Now I have to go watch Dr No again. While nehru jackets were before my time I still know what one is so I still feel old that you probably did need to explain it. I’ve expressed my appreciation for what an outstanding job Marc does with facial expressions many times, but for some reason I think he did an especially fine job on Dr Rocket with this strip. His pained expression in panel 4 is exemplary. Hah! Found an adjective I haven’t used to describe Marc’s magnificent work before! I’m anticipating the revelation of how Dr Rocket’s ended up working with/for Zurida. We’ve already had speculation she’s using Ms Missile to control him. I’m interested to see how that plays out if he’s dying and not doing this for a cure. I think is unlikely since he seemed to have made peace with his fate. I’m among the those speculating this is either part of some long term plan with CS or of his own. I think the Two Queens better watch their backs if their not going to cure Dr Rocket, because he always struck me as a “If I’m actually going to die I’m taking you straight to Hell with me” kind of villain.
You’re right about Doc accepting his fate, but, as you say, backing him into a corner is not the best idea. You’ll find out a lot more on Wednesday.
