You guys are really digging into the final strips of this chapter and I could not love that more. In the end, the most immediate and important reaction to the previous strip is, of course, Dark Maiden’s. And here you go. Her unique psychosis (she’s manifested three unique personalities so far–normal, evil and crazy) makes it difficult to tell how she’s going to react to any given situation, but there’s always a logic to it. I don’t think this reaction is all that mysterious.
As usual, Marc steps up big time when called upon to draw some action. My New Year’s resolution is to give him more opportunities to strut his stuff. Shouldn’t be too hard.
Can you feel it? We’re getting closer to the end of this chapter. Just two left! And no, you’re still not going to guess how it ends. A bunch of you keep trying, but you’re really not going to be successful. At all.
Tangerine never asked for this.
Well, no, no one asks for their leg to be blown off. That’s very true.
Aaand, Dark Maiden takes the first swing at Tangerine! What remains to be seen is wether she only removed his foot on purpose, or she just missed..
I like to think Marcus’ theory below answers that question.
Eh, he’s already had his nose and hand replaced, what’s a foot? Assuming Dark Maiden doesn’t murder him…
Now you’re figuring it out. Coming soon in the SuperFogeys: Tangerine is… Robocop!
Nah, Tangerine is way cooler than Robocop.
Now THAT is a reaction.
I wonder who will try to bring Dark Maiden down and if anyone can bring her down ? I mean, it felt like all of her personalities united to kill Tangerine. š
Shouldn’t she know that her father messed up her mind in the first place ?
Very good job to the both of you indeed. š
Love your thinking here.
Dark Maiden most likely is aware that it was her father who poisoned her mind (not to mention the fact that he tried to have her killed her right after she was born) but… still family, y’know?
Wilbur or Zurida. Those are the only two in the room that could possibly restrain Star Maiden in this situation.
You are probably right about that. Tag team!
You can probably add Percy to the list, but after that the list looks pretty empty.
My guess: Captain Emo will jump to save his father from star’s beam of vengeance.
You get the left field trophy, sir.
I don’t think Dark Maiden missed. But, of the Trio of Evil (no, I don’t count Star), only Zurida is left… if she survives the next few strips she’s going to be a very happy evil empress of the universe.
And to think, all Zurida really wants is to curl up on the couch with a good book and some tea. Stupid responsibilities.
Tangerine now has a decidedly Fullmetal Alchemist feel about him. Maybe he can affix Tom’s soul to a suit of armor/robot to make up for indirectly killing him. Cue the plagerisitc spin-off comic!
I’m not familiar with Fullmetal Alchemist, but I’ll take it. (Not the plagiarism though. I’ll leave that to greater (Shia) men (LeBeouf) than me.
Panel two! Marc has such a fantastically cinematic style. The red light and drawing focus to the one crazy eye, simply brilliant! Poor Tangerine may ultimately end up like Bezuel if he lives long enough to finish being dismembered peicemeal. I’m wondering if another personality altering blow to the head is coming in the struggle to subdue Star/Dark Maiden. It begs an interesting question about the nature of Dark/Star Maiden. She switches between the sweet and senile Star Maiden that only exists because of being poisoned and the evil tyrant Dark Maiden she became after the treatment Bezuel gave her when she was ill and returned to her home world. When he and Starbrighter “messed with her brain” http://superfogeys.com/2010/06/17/261-what-happened-to-star-maiden-pt-3-feeling-refreshed. Is the real Star Maiden – the one who was a hero and loved CS – still lost inside there somewhere? Or is Dark Maiden the real personality now?
That’s really the question, isn’t it? Is the real Star in there? Because at this point she’s been gone a long, long time.
So … one might say now that his life has so far cost him an arm and a leg?
Sorry. I just COULD not resist that! It had to be said!
Seriously though, I have a feeling its not so much that she missed as she lashed out at him. She wasn’t aiming at anything ON him specifically. It was just his “luck” that the blast got his leg instead of his chest, his other arm or his head.
Why did I not think of that (terrible) joke? Kudos, sir.
And that’s a solid Dark Maiden theory that makes a lot of sense in context.
“…not going to be successful…”
::sigh:: Fine. You want to play hardball? I’ll play hardball. I am so sure I am right that I will just drop a hint instead of a spoiler. Here it is: Jerry still controls The Thrice Evil (see comics 256/257).
Well, yeah. That’s never really been questioned, has it?
No, it hasn’t been questioned. In fact, I’m quite sure that it will soon be very important.
In unrelated news, I tend to bluff on weak hands when I play poker.
Nice. That’s a thread that’s so far back that it’s completely ripe for a left field usage that would make for an ending to a chapter that’s difficult to guess.
I mean, it WOULD, but…
