I don’t think one single strip has ever gotten Marc more praise than last week’s–and not even for the portion of the strip that was the biggest effort. More than a few of you were instead impressed with Marc’s work on Jerry’s expression in the last panel, and rightly so. It reminded me of the very best and creepiest depictions of the Joker at the time of his creation. Awesome work, Marc.
For my money, Marc does a similar trick with today’s strip. Seeing that cybernetic hand back on Tangerine is just plain weird after all this time, but Tangerine’s more severe reaction is rendered perfectly. The recovering alcoholic has been pushed into the bar. Now what?
See you on Wednesday as Tangerine–and you–face an even bigger shock!
While I’m sure Tangerine swiftly reverting to his old ways would turn out to be very handy for Spy Gal and company (how could they fail to benefit from a pile of dead villains?), I doubt that it’s on the cards just yet. If nothing else, I’m sure Bezuel has learned (the hard way!) to ensure that any superheroes he’s experimenting on are suitably restrained.
That’s a great point. In fact, you’ll see exactly how Bezuel is restraining Tangerine in the very next strip.
Sometimes, putting what you learn to good use is an idea. I mean in the recent Avengers comics, Wonder Man is takin the pacist lifestyle.
Maybe Tangerine can put what he learned about the Bible into good use, right ?
I didn’t know that about Wonder Man. I’ll have to look out for that and see how they’re handling it.
I take it his robo-arm has been more permanently attached. Else, he’d just remove it again, like before.
I don’t think his arm is easily removed, especially when you consider how it has to operate. It’s not like a prosthetic leg or arm. We never saw it removed when he was jailed after killing Herman, and in his origin story, to was surgically implanted: http://superfogeys.com/2009/08/11/sf-origins-tangerine-pg-3-new-parts/.
When it’s on, it’s on. It ain’t exactly a snap-on tool.
This is something that hasn’t really been shown, but billydaking is probably a bit closer to the truth.
Be thankful. Tangerine, After a situation like your’s, most wake up to find body parts MISSING rather than added.
In all seriousness, if Tangerine has really taken his own message to heart, the hand shouldn’t be as big a temptation as he thinks right now. That hand is deadly, yes. But any hand is only a weapon if the person using it chooses for it to be.
The problem is…Tangerine’s situation is like an alcoholic turning away from a drink, then having someone grab him and force a bottle of whiskey down his throat.
There’s your conscious thought, and then there’s your nature/addiction. Given how Tangerine mental stress manifested physically when he considered taking the Cyberhand O’ Doom back, I don’t think the temptation is going to be minor for him.
I love that this is a discussion.
“They put it on BACKWARD!”
Oh man, that would be worst, right? Imagine trying to drink a glass of water. It would be horrible.
That’s the same reaction people have when they wake up to find that they are missing a hand.
Too true!
Marc has done another magnificent job. Hmm. Wonder if Bezuel and Pilatius duped Star Maiden into helping them acquire her own executioner. If Tangerine does return to his old ways, Star Maiden would be at the top of his head-crushing list for, you know, incinerating his son. No matter how obnoxious he was. Bezuel may have changed his tune http://superfogeys.com/2013/03/06/486-on-a-thin-tether/ but I think Pilatius may have plans of his own.
We haven’t seen any evidence that Tangerine knows who killed his son–no one seems to have told him yet. As for Bezuel and Pilatius… plans will be revealed soon.
