This strip is a Marc Lapierre special. I’ve learned that with action scenes the less scripting I do the better. Marc has references to pull from that I can’t touch and a much better visual mind for the choreography and how it should play out across panels than I do. Even in the last panel, the tie cinch was all Marc.
One of my favorite things about Money Man is his way of fighting crime–throw money at the problem. Whether it’s funding The Society of Heroes or buying off a villain, Money Man truly believed in the power of his fortune. I love that, but it’s kind of a one-joke premise. Obviously, Money Man has moved beyond it.
Had a chance to return to my old stomping grounds at Fresno State on Monday where I gave a lecture on my experiences with comics–and Webcomics in particular. I went in-depth with my whole history and the history of SuperFogeys (while somehow managing not to spoil the Jerry reveal) and it was loads of fun. I recorded it with the intent of sharing, but it’s well over an hour and if you’ve heard any of my podcast interviews, you’ve probably heard it all anyway. Still, it was loads of. Fun. Hopefully, the students felt the same way.
O-kay.
Money Man’s reappearance has been way overdue, apparently.
Methinks HE should be the one to wind up with Spygal – eh? š
They do share a close relationship. This has really only been hinted out, but I do have a SuperFogeys Origins script in the drawer that explores it a bit more. Just need to find the right artist.
Ten digits, my boy- fantastic gripping power!
It’s what gives him that edge!
Okay…I didn’t see that one coming. š
Awesome.
“Money throws a lousy punch.” Not the catch phrase you’d expect from a guy named Money Man.
He’s rich. He knows how to fight. He looks like a butler. Someone put Bruce Waynes brain in Alfred’s body!
That was excellent!
Great observation, gnrrg. I didn’t even think of him that way.
Woohoo!
The Mighty Money Man kicks alien butt!
The art in this is utterly amazing and well laid out.
Seriously, I am loving this strip more and more with each new post.
We love hearing that, Spike. Especially after all this time. Thanks!
CALLED IT!
Money can’t buy that kind of #$%- whuppin!
You did indeed call it. I knew you’d be pleased today.
I am most pleased. I bequeath you a fief of 5000 koku and 1 consort of samurai birth by which to sow your future legacy.
Looks like the Money Man has been studying Cane-Fu in his spare time!
Oh, he knows more than Cane-Fu. You’ll see.
Money Man’s been learning some mad fightin skillz in the last 50 years yo!
He’s no slouch, it’s true. 50 years is a good amount of time to get good at something. It remains to be seen if that’s ALL he’s been doing.
I’m REALLY curious why MM has 10 fingers…
Does he now? That’s interesting.
I’m ashamed to say I missed that little detail….. SusPIIIIIIIIIIciousssssss!
He’s Money Man. He could afford the extra two.
It’s quite possible that gnrrrg has solved the mystery.
Actually, Jenny Everywhere brought ANOTHER Money Man over from a parallel universe where everyone has ten fingers. He said he would buy her some toast.
Because if there’s one thing money can buy a lot of… it’s toast.
Marc did an outstanding job. Simply magnificent. I’m thinking he has spent the last 50 years preparing for this, which I believe would rule out Mega Matt as his source of possible future information – or at least his only source – since he got tossed into the time stream before the alien invasion. I’m wondering if I missed some point were our favorite time-jumping curmudgeon Swifty might have tipped him off.
As presented in the origin story of the Society of Heroes, Future Swifty and Money Man never came into contact. Now, did they have contact outside of that story that we haven’t seen?
Not that I’ve shown so far.
Gotta say, I love this comic. It’s one of the first I check on Mondays ( well, every day– yes,I re-read things for detail). The art is well done, the writing moves at a good pace, and surprises abound!
Aaaaaaand, looking back at MM’s SF Origins story, I think the “extra” finger shown in the current strip is way too prominently shown to be a continuity error. Pretty please? OTOH, don’t do the whole tired “prime” universe in the multiverse thing, man. That’s a deus ex machina, which would (IMO) sink the whole thing for me.
Also, i’ve always wondered: who decides which universe is “prime” and which is not? The USDA? (Sorry, couldn’t resist, it’s grilling season and I’ve been looking at steaks I can’t afford again).
Hey, Slug! Thanks for all the kind words!
The reveal of deal with Money Man is bound to surprise–and disappoint–many. If anybody ends up not digging the reveal, all I ask is that they have a little patience to see it how it plays out. There’s what’s going on, and then there’s WHAT’S GOING ON. It can take a little time to get there, but hopefully I’ve proved by now that it’s usually worth the journey.
