I’m starting to find some unique joys in having a long-running webcomic. One of them is scenes like this. There’s a huge gap between how Cap and Doc related to each other at the beginning of the strip and how they are now. I believe firmly in change. People don’t stay one way through their lives. Anyone, at any given moment, is capable of both great good and great evil and the consequences of our decisions between the two can change who we are on a fundamental level. Is Dr. Rocket a good guy now? Certainly not. But at least there’s one area of this life that is better than it was.
6 more strips until SF 500…
Aww, even Harvey wants a hug.
Zombie bunnies are notoriously affectionate, you just have to watch out they don’t get TOO affectionate.
Just caught up on the last two updates- sad to know that we won’t be getting an SFO Zurida story. (or…might we? I see the banner is still up on the left, there…) She’s becoming Interesting. Rather sneaky, and… compassionate to boot? (Looking dead at the above strip there).
I feel like Tom’s bed’s placement is less “compassion” and more “giving her son/husband something he wants without letting him/Cap out of her sight”. Still, given how Doc and Jerry have been written, I’m sure she’s got plenty of depth to her character.
We’ll find out more about Zurida’s motivations soon, and of course she has a big part to play in coming events. Expect a bigger exploration of who she is. Also, if you pick up the forthcoming SuperFogeys Sourcebook, you’ll find out A LOT more about her, including a good chunk of her origin.
I’m really glad to see this. Going off what I said yesterday, it just speaks to the quality of your writing for Doc that he can have a moment like this, with a man he resented so much that it helped drive him to villainy, without either the moment or his continuing evil seem forced or out-of-character. It shows how complex his motives are and how much depth the relationship between him and Cap has.
It’s also great to see Cap and Percy staying by Tom’s side. Poor guy needs all the support he can get.
I’m at the point where it feels like the characters are doing their own thing, so I don’t think I can take too much credit, but I thank you just the same. It’s a big deal to me that these huge shifts don’t feel out of character. I know that hasn’t always been the case with this strip–some shifts haven’t come off as well as others, but we just keep going forward, right?
Pawns in an intergalactic chess match.
Aw, you’re bringing down our good vibes!
I love the looks on their faces in the hug. The rabbit almost looks proud, like an aristocrat. I can almost picture a top hat and a monocle. Great strip.
Agreed. I was just noticing their faces this morning. Marc really did something special there.
AWH, now that’s a hallmark moment right there. Gotta love the love going on here, can’t wait to see what happens next. One thought though, didn’t Cap say he didn’t want to go with her and now that his hands are untied why is he still there? Couldn’t he just take Tom and leave?
Next week will answer all of those questions. How’s that for service?
D’awwww…. group hug!!
Everybody… everybody, come on. Bring it in.
I’m just grateful that “throne room” wasn’t being used as a euphemism here.
As are we all.
just wandering, what happened to the famous medal after all those years? who got it or what happened to it? After all the things that have happened between those two I think that the medal that gave origin to it would be a great token of their friendship
Good question. Here’s the last time we saw it: http://superfogeys.com/2009/03/19/200-where-is-he/ . Either it was buried with Herman or Cap grabbed it and took it home. The safer bet is the latter.
I knew Doc was going to see Captain but didn’t guess how they would react. Love that last panel <3
Glad we got to pleasantly surprise you!
Wow, I’m honestly very surprised to see Doc and Cap so happy to see each other like that. Kinda expected it from Cap, but Doc? And Harvey? Wow.
Hopefully this is a good surprise as well, though I suspect that when the eventual collected edition of SF appears it won’t seem as shocking. There’s been good vibes between Doc and Cap for a while now.
Best Frienemies forever.
Squee! <3
My two favorite aspects of SF are Soviet Sam’s friendship with Space Pig, and the friendship between Dr. Rocket and Captain Spectacular.
Just….. So heartwarming.
