I think this is the first real action strip we’ve seen since Jerry took down the robot in Chapter 12. Reminds me just how GOOD Marc is at the action. Thankfully, there’s tons more action coming up and I’ll get to put Marc through a few more paces.
I’ve always referred to The SuperFogeys as “inaction heroes,” but what do you like most when you read the strip? Do you like some action here and there? Do you wish there was more? Less? Do you prefer dialogue-heavy strips? Sound off below!
Some action, some plot development, some character development… pretty much what there is now, with maybe a smidge more action?
This pretty much mirrors my thinking right now as well. SF could use a bit more action, but I don’t want to rock the boat too bad.
That’s a very powerfully displayed “HATE” right up there. I don’t have a good memory, but I’m pretty sure we haven’t seen words like that too many times before.
Also, I love conversations. Action is great, but conversations are more interesting to me. I like to see action in how characters talk to each other.
You do have a good memory, Tyler. I did something a little differently with the lettering on “HATE.” Always trying to get better. Does it work for you?
It actually does. It makes me feel what Spy Gal’s feeling, and now I’m afraid there are actually space monkeys somewhere out there. Thanks, Brock and Marc.
I’m indifferent to the levels of action. Marc is awesome at it, but as a reader I find story far more interesting than action.
Duly noted. I appreciate the feedback.
I like the action, but mainly because it gives me hope that our elderly heros will find the spark they used to have and get back into saving the world.
Just because you’re old doesn’t mean you are useless. As Terry Pratchett puts it (referring to Cohen the Barbarian and the silver Hoarde) they have had a life time of experience at not dying. Experience counts for a LOT but only if it is used.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I don’t read Superfogeys for the action, partly because there hasn’t been that much action in the first place. Of course it depends what kind of work it is. Some tales have more action than others. But I think that rule of thumb is that action should help the plot not be the main attraction.
I think Hugo Pratt found good balance in his works, but their subject was more action heavy than yours.
Not familiar with Hugo Pratt, but I agree that when action is the point, interest is gone. I don’t see any danger of SuperFogeys going that way.
I like action, but not when it’s just used as filler. The action in this one is perfect, it’s gritty (love the blood trail), overflowing with subtext and drives the story in interesting new directions. I’m sure we all thought this sequence was about Cap, but it turns out to be about Spy Gal after all. Brilliant!
Thanks, Frank!
Space monkeys… why did it have to be space monkeys.
Worse than snakes? Oh yes.
I love how Spy Gal comes to Cap’s rescue, but kicks his ass at the same time.
“Cap, give me your hand and I’ll pull you out – whoops didn’t mean to toss you the whole way down the alley – jerk”.
I love this take.
Somewhat akin to pulling someone into the pool when they’ve offered you a hand out.
…. Only funnier.
wow i just noticed when did spy gal lose her inhibitor? she now might be the only one who can counter Jerry’s doors since she can phase through stuff.
and who doesn’t hate space monkeys? seems like there may be a back story with her level of hate. š
