Whoa, okay. So I was right about the shower part. Haha, secret’s revealed, everyone! I’m the real writer behind SuperFogeys!
So is did Clovis just hit that trophy and make a run for it?
Yeah, l laughed when you wrote that in the comments on the previous strip. This strip was already in the hopper!
I have no idea what’s going on with the background. Did Spy Gal throw the remote? It’s very vague and ambiguous. Or something.
Burn.
she smashed the remote. not sure why the bear is trying to escape..
Maybe someone next door banged on the wall? Or CS just broke Tangerine out. Anyway the important thing is that the trophy is falling. Jerry’s football trophy. That he most likely won in college under the name of Jerome Klein.
Oh dang…I hadn’t thought about that!
Earthquake, maybe? Wait, this is Florida…
First sign of the alien invasion? Bears and trophies falling! Oh my!
Yes, we should all keep a close watch on our stuffed animals. They will know before we do when our alien overlords are coming.
Here comes the fake guilt trip reversal.
…possibly.
Nah he’s messin with her. He’ll convince her his feelings are hurt for a second and then go “HAH! Gotcha!” and they’ll be geriatric lovey-dovey.
Is it really SO hard to believe that Jerry couldn’t ever possibly mislead anyone for a even a moment even in jest? Not true-blue Jerry! Perish the thought! 😀
@CartoonistWill — No, I don’t think someone’s thrown the remote. There’s something else going on. I think Jerry looks a bit like Lex Luthor without the mask. He does a sad puppy face well.
Totally looks like Lex Luthor, I agree. But I can tell you the first sketch I ever did of Jerry without the mask was about 2 and a half years after the first strip came out. Wasn’t even thinking about LL then, but I like that it ended up that way.
Wow, I thought he looked like Lex too… Creepy.
There’s a little bit of truth in every joke. (Eat that, Jerry!)
So true. I hate that it’s true, but it is.
But is it for Spy Gal?
You’ll determine that in the end, but I think it absolutely is. She’d kidding herself. Jerry isn’t the REAL action man she’s been looking for. Apart from the sheer phoneybaloney nonsense of Jerry’s every waking moment, he isn’t even really brave. In the moment of crisis, there was a point where SHE had to push HIM.

He wasn’t just stunned. He was wet-your-pants afraid for a moment, not realizing the sheer power of what he had unleashed and fearing that he wouldn’t be able to control it. In the heat of action, would that have been Captain Spectacular? Not in his glory days, I bet. Now? Yeah, he’s a total chump, but in his youth, he was a real hero, despite his flaws. Was Jerry? Nope. And he isn’t now. And let me point out once again that he doesn’t love Vanessa. His declaration in #339 is to “Spygal.” The fake idea of a woman he has in his head, not the real one.
Well said.
… Call me crazy, but I had to do a double take. For a moment, Jerry LOOKED like CS..
I think that brings another picture to the Jerry Puzzle… watching his hero go so far down south, he has started to do things to REPLACE him… i mean.. when did he get so big? Jerry is wanting to take over CS’s entire existance
Jerry started lifting in college, IIRC.
And btw…even though his entire life was pretty much a LOOOOONG plan to get Spy Gal, I think his subconscious plan was to, at least metaphorically, replace the Captain. He’s younger, knows CSII is a lazy good-for-nothing, and is tired of the sidekick game.
Verrrrry interesting thoughts, guys.
Panel 2: boxers, briefs or something else? THESE DETAILS ARE IMPORTANT TO THE PLOT!
In which case I will tell you: briefs.
Is it just me or does Jerry still have that circle mark from when he was bed ridden?
How does does it take for that thing to heal?
I never understood what that was…a wound? Skin removed? It always appeared to have depth.
It’s a scar. And yeah, it does have some depth, but it looks a little better than it used to.
Jerry looks so odd without any of his masks!
It even makes me wonder if he’s wearing one now. But probably not.
Yes, he is! And underneath… he’s Tom Cruise!
This has got to be one of my favorite if not all-time favorite SF comic so far. Everything about it is done so well, from the expressions on the faces to the dialogue to the sheer punch of the final panel. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a while, and it not only delivered spectacularly, it did so in a way/time I didn’t see coming.
Bravo, Brock and Marc.
As for what’s coming next… Jerry is a smart man. He’s proven this before. The real question is if he can look at himself in this new light and truly justify his actions up to this point anymore. He’s always said he believes himself to be a good man, and (in my opinion) has not been one in reality. It seems his own disparity has caught up with him. I’m not sure really what will happen, but I know I hope that he’s really just misguided. Even if he is evil, I’ve got a giant soft spot for him because he was always just trying so hard and getting kicked in the sand. How many times did he have to wipe off his face, get back up with gritted teeth, and force back on his smile before he got to the point he’s at? He’s a wonderful case of a sympathetic villain, one you can even imagine being the protagonist if things were a little different. So my future forecast is… He will either confess VERY shortly, or he’ll battle this out in his mind for a while before coming to the conclusion that he has to do the right thing, but maybe too late!
Thanks very much for the kudos, Meredia. I love it when a reaction to a strip is as unexpectedly passionate as yours. Much intrigue with Jerry is coming. I look forward to your thoughts.

I like the way you put that. Highlights the disconnect between how the reader [at least should] feels about him and how he feels about himself while bringing to light an obvious internal conflict that will catch up to him before too long.
