I think anyone can be redeemed, but I think Cap is only half right: you have to want it and work toward it. Which is why Jerry, currently, won’t be redeemed as he doesn’t really view himself as having been completely wrong so is doing nothing to work at showing he’s redeemed.
I agree with you. There is work involved. And I like to think Cap isn’t negating that.
Percy’s attitude is self-defeating. He doesn’t think redemption is even available to him, but Cap’s argument is the opposite. “Worthy of redemption” is not the same as “being redeemed.” I think the point is that there’s nothing we can do that we can’t be forgiven for, and if we want redemption then we are already worthy of grabbing for it.
Jerry’s problem is that he doesn’t want redemption, because he doesn’t regret his actions.
He tries to be a hero, but only because he wants to be seen as one. He doesn’t seem to struggle internally, so much as he’s struggling against everyone else’s perception of him.
Which is why, instead of being with the team to aid their mission, he’s off on some quest which will undoubtedly make things worse. Because he’s hoping a grand gesture will make him the center of attention.

Off-topic: Now that Swifty’s done running around in that nasty ass bathrobe I think it should be given to Ms. Missle for testing. It probably has the cure for cancer on it or become sentient.
