Cell phones are a blight upon this land. And by this land, I mean the entire Earth. The whole thing. It used to be if you were talking to someone and someone else came along and you immediately turned your attention to them, that was rude. Now, it’s just a matter of course for a person to pick up their phone immediately upon ringing, regardless of whether or not the person in front of them was in the middle of professing their love and trying to point out their arm is on fire.
So, Cap, I feel your pain. Spy Gal be rude.
NEW PATRONS!
Big thanks to our recent new Patrons! Every single dollar makes a big difference for us starving artists who make the SuperFogeys week in and week out. It’s a labor of love, and we know you love it, too.
Been enjoying SuperFogeys for a while now and want to support it? Becoming a patron is easy and as cheap as you want it to be. You can find out all the details right here (or the button below). Thank you!
See you on Monday with 698 – “Good Thing or Bad Thing?”
Just wanted to say that Spy Gal is still teh hawtness. Guns out, girl.
Welcome back, guys.
Hey, thanks! And thanks for commenting!
And so we come to the age old question. Which is ruder, to interrupt a real life conversation for a cell phone, or to interrupt a cell phone conversation for a real one?
Um, put me firmly down for interrupting a real life conversation for a cell phone call. No contest.
I think the dialogue in this one is rather interesting. Spy Gal swaps between irate but familiar with the Cap, frantic and protective towards the Money Man, and glibly dismissive towards Jerry.
I feel this strip opens a bit of a window back into that Spy Gal/Jerry dynamic people have been speculating on, especially as a follow-up to Jerry referring to Spy Gal as his wife in the previous strip.
Having gotten married over the Superfogeys hiatus I have to say that referring to one another as husband as wife still feels odd on the tongue after 9 years of using various other terms for one another. I imagine adapting to calling Spy Gal his wife would have been an interesting step for Jerry. Was he desperately eager to start using the word? Does saying it – even a year later – feel odd to him after years of being ignored by her?
First of all–congrats on your marriage! Best thing that even happened to me and I hope you’re enjoying some wonderful bliss (though, of course, it is also quite difficult–as is anything that’s worth doing). I remember well how weird calling someone my “wife” was when we first started off 16 years ago. For Jerry, I think calling her that was something he was very eager to do. And we know from the when Jerry’s true nature was first revealed that she referred to him as her husband back then as a form of punishment for herself. The question is… is that still true?
Certainly, the Jerry/Spy Gal dynamic has been backgrounded of late, though one would be right to assume that’s not going to last forever. In fact, look for a new development at the end of this very chapter.
You’re right to pick up on the hints being dropped. Next week, in the Wednesday bonus strip I’m writing and drawing, you’ll get Spy Gal addressing the matter directly. Watch for that.
