Sometimes, I ask Marc to accomplish the tricky task of communicating a character’s entire state of mind or silent conversation purely through a facial expression. I think in order to write effective character dramas within the comics medium, you’ve GOT to be able to handle facial expressions well. It’s why Marc is such an effective artist for this story–he nails this stuff.
Kevin Maguire, who used to draw Justice League, was a master of this. He the guy I always think of first when it comes to this. If you can ever find a copy of the prestige format series he did with writer Fabian Nicieza and inker Terry Austin and colorist Paul Mounts called The Adventures of Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, pick it up. Not only is it his best work, but I’m pretty sure it’s what the first Captain America movie was based on and what he does with Bucky in particular is a masterclass in facial expressions.
Unemployment update: still unemployed. Some choice blogs you may have missed over on my other site include: “Day 44 – Faith/Religion in the Blog: Sprinkle or Shower?” and “Day 45 – I Have a New Job (Just Not the One I Was Expecting)” and “Day 46 – Is It Time to Move Away?” and “Day 47 – How to Be Unemployed and Happy.”
Is Zurida that gullible enough to fall for an evil Thrice Evil and. Not see the warnings ? š
Not Gullible, but more like a Fatal Character Flaw.
What has she ALWAYS gone after? The strongest, most powerful male to rule by her side.. ALWAYS. And what is being presented to her is the manifestation of power, embodied in a male who dared to change the fabric of the universe itself, and offering to serve by her side. I think for Zurida, this is par for the course
It could be arrogance. She probably thinks that nobody could ever defeat her, so having someone to rule alongside her sounds great.
I’m still not sure if Rocket is playing the long game with her.
The stakes are getting higher and higher here.
Ooh, Dark Maiden didn’t like Zuraida’s reaction to the new ruler one bit! I wonder if she’s catching on to the Authority-Figures-Who-Manipulate-Star/Dark-Maiden pattern yet. I’m looking forward to her reaction to Thrice Evil when he arrives.
It being Zurida, I think Valareos makes a good point. On the other hand, it’s Zurida. I’m not sure she’s really looking for anyone to rule by her side as a true equal, which I think Dar/Star Maiden has realized. She deems only the most powerful of men worthy of her. I think it’s just another extension of her egomania. She is Zurida, Mistress of Worlds, and views herself superior to all others. Therefor she deserves the ultimate man candy. I don’t imagine Dr Rocket takes rejection well, and since Zurida isn’t an idiot, I’m sure she knows it too. It will be interesting to know what happens.
