Here’s a secret: these types of strips are some of my favorites. Moving this particular story along doesn’t always allow for these moments of reflection and contemplation, but when they can happen I love to see them. The gold standard, for me, is still this one, but there’s a lot to love in today’s as well–mostly due to Marc’s stellar art and handling of Thrice in his prime, a sight we don’t get to see too often (this SFO being a rare instance).
I was mightily impressed by the comments last week and the research that went into the discussions. Jerden asked some great questions about Money Man’s status and I thought King G really stepped up to tie a bunch of threads together in an interesting way in order to answer those questions. Is he right? Is he wrong? Either way, it’s worth going back a strip too see what was said.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you guys make this all worth doing. It’s incredibly gratifying to see people get really caught up in a story you create in the way you hoped they would.
Speaking of Marc’s art, have you guys checked out The Art of Marc Lapierre on Facebook? Mark posts new, non-SuperFogeys sketches pretty much daily. Some of them are fairly hilarious. My favorite recent one was a Wampa dressed up as Elsa from Frozen. It has to be seen to be believed.
Ironically, this would be something I could see Marvel pull off in their comics.
Despite the fact that I use a lot of DC archetypes for these characters, I do think the SF world is descended more from the Marvel way of superhero comics. Probably helps that I’m a bigger fan of Marvel in the first place.
Those were the days my friend.
I thought he was only impaired due to his close proximity to the retirement home?
Nope. Jerry did something to him–something that can be turned on and off with a switch–but that something has never been shown to be tied to Valhalla.
So in that case, since Jerry is with the rebels now, and Thrice (presumably) is also part of the rebels, why not turn off his “dampener” and have him join the rebels? Unless he’s too dangerous to be at full capacity?
Quite honestly, after reading his origin story (very scary and a good short in itself) and discovering that even there he didn’t get to say or do something on his own that had a signifiant influence on what was going on, I kinda figured you did not really care about The Thrice Evil.
With that being said, I always liked his charater design and wanted to find out a bit more about him. Right know I wonder if he actually switched sides or if he is in co-op with Atomic Fly. If I remember correctly, Spy Gal said something about Fly being on a mission, without mentioning Thrice. That implies he sided with the evil folks again.
I very much care about Thrice Evil, but I haven’t taken many opportunities to show him off, that’s true. I hope to change that in the near future.
Atomic Fly is just passing by Thrice here. Thrice is where Spy Gal and everybody else already is–in the Great Hall of the Society of Heroes.
Ah, okay, I just misunderstood the “Under New Management” sign and thought it referred to Zurida. Must have forgotten where the base is located.
So Atomic Fly flies upside down too.
Not the first time we’ve seen him do that. I can’t remember the exact strip, but when Percy first came to Valhalla we caught a glimpse of Thrice hovering upside down then, too.
That would be where i thought it was CSII still flying through the air from the punch.
I’ve never hide my affection to Thrice Evil, I think he is an awesome character with so much potential. I also love what Marc did there to remember his glory days (he looks like a mighty evil Aquaman with his cape there). And I hope this develops in something great, I thought that Thrice would be one of the best lieutenants Zurida could have on her side due all the resentment he has towards Jerry, who slave him…
You haven’t really seen much of him so I can see how you might think Thrice would be a great lieutenant, but Thrice is more of the guy-in-charge sort of person. At least, he was when he was younger. You’re certainly right about his resentment towards Jerry though.
