Been a lot of speculation as to the identity of Gorgeous Guy (still technically unnamed in the strip, but the tags give it away). Some of you have guessed clone, some have guessed an altered Percy. One person suggested he was Justin Bieber after a lot of hamburgers and a healthy exercise regimen (no one suggested that). He is, however, the renamed Captain Spectacular II and we last saw him right here. This was just before his team, the modern day Society of Heroes, died. An event he references. Now you know and the not-a-mystery can cease!
New mystery: Why is the former Captain Spectacular II on Zurida’s side?
Also… if Gorgeous Guy is not Percy… then where is Percy? Definitive answer this chapter, and a whole new look for Percy to boot.
Oh, thank God in Heaven! Dr. Rocket and Poison Ivy still have their clothes on!
I guarantee you there’s a certain segment out there who are disappointed.
Was he strong enough to survive, lucky enough to survive, or smart enough to survive?
Definitely strong and/or lucky.
Silly Zealot is right.
He’s on their side because it’s easier. That and it would seem one of Starmaiden’s many abilities is to shut off someones emotions. Depending on how large a scale she could do this, it might explain why this regime has so much support.
Curious as to how you concluded that’s one of Dark Maiden’s powers…?
Time skip of one year. No reaction on any character that he’s in the room. He’s been there a while. Lazy as he is, he’s at least intelligent to have survived this long, so he’s familiar with Star Maiden and Zurida’s moods at the very least.
His phrasing to Star Maiden was that he needed an opinion for a talk show. It’s not something she would be interested in. Therefore he was actually asking her to make it so that he would have an opinion at all. Going by his statement that he has feelings about the prior events, and then voicing a concern that “here come the feelings” after Star Maiden zapped him, if nothing else she has someway of altering the way his brain/mind works.
A bit of a stretch, but a logical progression.
I’m surprised that they let the former Captain Spectacular 2 live as a slave. Plus, I miss the old funny rambling Star Maiden, there has to be some part of her left… š
I miss the old Star Maiden, too.
http://superfogeys.com/2012/10/15/449-dna-scan-switch/ Could have sworn THIS was the last time we saw CSII… when i saw this i had always thought the form spiraling was CSII (quite a hit to send him cross country) as far as luck…. http://superfogeys.com/2012/11/05/455-youre-not-my-father/ hitched a ride on a sunbeam as DR rocket escaped? well, it would explain how he survived…
That’s actually Atomic Fly in your first link, negating the second one. That’s an awesome theory though. I love the detail of it–you give me way too much credit for storytelling genius!
It just dawned on me that 1) We haven’t seen Thrice Evil yet and 2) Jerry isn’t subduing him anymore. Interesting…
1) True.
2) Not necessarily true.
Of course the one guy I was happy to see kick the bucket survived. As for Starmaiden’s reason for her anger. She did like speedy, but now since the time loop/arc has become stable that means that speedy just dashed into the past now leaving her single. Even if you have a someone as handsome (but mostly worthless) like the 2nd it doesn’t not help fill the gap. Oh and just because it needs to be said… Good score Mr. Rocket I salute you!
No love for Cap II?
Dark Maiden is indeed unattached. I mean, who would dare, right?
Where is Swifty in all of ths?
Missing. Time traveling. Either/both work. He may show up again, he may not.
He’s on Zurida’s side because he’s a finely-coiffed coward that prefers to sit where it’s safe and drink tea rather than engage in anything resembling conflict. Besides, being dead would seriously crimp his relationship with his public.
Dang, that’s a good rundown of that character.
Well, you HAVE made him rather obvious. He could have been “Captain Obvious” quite easily, except that the real Captain Obvious would have confronted him about it, and Boy Gorgeous, or whatever he is now, would have been afraid to deal with that.
The only thing @quarktime hasn’t pointed out is that CS2’s other purpose is to demonstrate that Captain Spectacular is still a hero, despite his many flaws and outright lack of action in Vegas. If one compares the two, CS2 and CS basically both lacked any actual heroic action throughout the comic. Even if we ignore the original Cap’s history, their true colours are shown by their alignment during the occupation.
Gorgeous Guy seems a little clingy with Dark Maiden considering she did try to kill him and slaughtered his teammates. Although, I think we all cheered for her on that one. Particularly The Healer. Is it mind control or is he just that desperate for attention? Are we ever going to get the floppy-haired cretin’s back story? I’m curious as to how he and the rest of those vapid buffoons ever replaced their predecessors. I’m wondering if they were selected as part of someone’s evil plot. Namely Jerry. He was quite friendly with GG/CS II. Also, as Jim mentioned, when do we get to see Thrice Evil?
You wonder how the new squad managed to replace the old ones… The old one got old. Other than that most of the competent villains were locked up and the ones that were still out… Little dictator. You just get someone to toss her in jail. You don’t even need superpowers for that. The rest either retired like Doctor Rocket… or killed any of the young upstarts who messed up their vacation. I mean Old Doc is getting close to kicking the bucket and he is still ridding in style (If not more than he used to). That’s my take on it.
Its not a secret, he is a pussy.
