Li'l Shorty by Marc Lapierre

Li’l Shorty is a character who was mentioned a long, long time ago but was never seen until the jump to One Year Later. I gave Marc a name and that was pretty much it. He came up with the look and the majority of the back story. Kudos, Marc. She looks great!

Here’s her bio:

Tendra Lamaar is a genius teenage inventor who has always been underestimated because of her small stature, gender and age. Deciding to steer into the skid, she created her greatest invention—the Tomlin Gauntlets she wears on her arms that allow her to shrink down to a subatomic level. The Gauntlets were particularly useful in the pre-occupation days when she solved mysteries and conducted investigations as a sort of super-powered Veronica Mars. Her abilities allowed her to examine evidence to a degree that’s usually only possible in a lab, seeing clues that the naked, regular eye cannot see.

She is friends with Mega Matt and Duper Dave. In the world of the Occupation, Tendra has joined up with Spy Gal and fights in the resistance.

I love Shorty, she looks AWESOME, and in match with the tone of the strip. However, I has a question unrelated to the new character, but something brought about by the latest strip.

Zurida’s hair is magnificently gravity-defying – to such a degree that I find myself having to ask, is it outright prehensile?

Zurida’s hair is indeed prehensile! She’s part plant, so she’s got control over some stuff we don’t.

I don’t think the strip ever said she was part plant, did it? New revelation for me 🙂

You are correct. It’s one of those things I keep trying to find a way to work in. Kind of slipped out here. I usually like to reveal such things in the strip proper.

Geoih: ” If helping otrhes is such a great idea and so important to ‘society’, then I would expect there will be plenty of giving people like yourself to provide for the less fortunate”Larry: “but you would “expect” wrong for the majority of voters in this country.they believe in:1. – all taxpayers helping to not let people die from a lack of health care2. – individual mandates like payroll taxes and mandatory insurance (like auto insurance) to be financially responsible for their needs.”If I understand this correctly, you agree with Geoih that a majority of people, you included, feel a moral obligation to help those in need, and will do so voluntarily. But, in addition, you believe that anyone who doesn’t agree with the majority, should be forced at gunpoint to contribute also.Is that about it?Or, does “but you would “expect” wrong for the majority of voters in this country” mean that you believe a majority would NOT be so generous, so that everyone must be forced by some authority to pay for those less fortunate?

Quote from Larry G: “If insurance beacme less and less purchased but the govt (a majority of taxpayers) would not let sick people die,”The question is would YOU let them die? Rather than worrying so much about what other people would do, and trying to spend their money on things you think are important, what would you do with your money? If helping others is such a great idea and so important to ‘society’, then I would expect there will be plenty of giving people like yourself to provide for the less fortunate. If you think that will only happen if people are forced at the point of a gun, then you have a very low opinion of other people indeed, and are sadly mistaken if you think doing so makes for a better ‘society’.

Departments to close:CommerceLaborEducationEnergyAgricultureHealth and Human ServicesHUDSend all of this money back to the states. Then, re-asses.Never close DOD and VA. These are the only lgimteiate functions of the federal government, besides maybe Treasury.Just bring the troops home from Japan, South Korea, Afghanistan and Germany [the Europeans can pay their own defense and military costs]. We can put all these troops in new bases along the southern border.

I couldn’t agree more about gitraerics. I miss sitting with some of the elderly individuals I used to help and they would tell me stories for hours about the things that they witness when they were younger, and the lives that they lived up to the point that they needed care. I have always felt that the elderly know how to live their lives better than anyone, and they for sure never take it for granted! Sometimes the people taking care of them are not good people though, and it always breaks my heart to see someone talking badly to an elderly man or woman.I like how you made a switch from little tiny babies that have no real experience with life, to elderly men and women who have lived life to its fullest and still have more life to share with others. Such opposites!
