Welcome to a new chapter–and a new era–of The SuperFogeys! I’m sure a lot of you are still reeling from the revelation of our jump to one year later on Monday, but we’re not wasting any time here. We gotta dive into this new world, and first up is a villain I’ve wanted to bring back every since his one panel cameo a couple years ago–Suckface! Say the name out loud. Try not to laugh.
If you saw/heard my interview with Kurt Sasso all about One Year Later, then you know I can barely say Suckface with a straight face, but the dude is actually a villain I’m really excited about. He’s kind of weird, kind of vulgar, and way cool. I mean, he’s got a black hole for a mouth. How does he talk? Let your imagination be your guide. (My take: in his belly are mini galaxies populated with beings whose worship and prayers are heavily, psychically influenced by their host. Their songs are his mind made audible, and since the galaxies are small and time is relative, they sing at the speed of Suckface’s thoughts. Just one theory.)
Lots of little nuggets in today’s strip, and lots more to come. Hope you guys have fun chewing on them. As Bob pointed out on Monday, all of this was pretty much predicted by a strip from almost a year ago. You never know what seeds we’re planting. But you knew that.
We don’t ask for money much around here (well, save for the ever-present Donation button to the left [all of it goes to Marc–I get nothing]), so what do you think about sharing SF with just one friend this week? One Year Later is the perfect jumping on point and I’d hate to see it go to waste!
Yikes, first comic for a new chapter and there’s already trouble. š
I wonder if we’ll meet any new young heroes in this post apocalypse world ?
I think you’ll see a few young heroes, Marcus, yeah. Fairly soon in fact.
Yeah, would be interesting. Since the young generation in America (Society of Heroes) apparently got annihilated, maybe the Europeans felt the need to step up.
Funny thing, if you think about it. The comic started out as a story about former heroes in a home and now it looks like it’s going to be the superhero version of RED.
Additionally: Jay for Sam being back in action! Love that guy.
RED–that’s true. There is a bit of that flavor to all this. I don’t mind it as there are some decent ideas in that concept.
Uhh, now that Suckface is here, is there any chance we’ll get to see SeƱor Cockfight i action? Gotta love a villain that uses an illegal scheme as a front for his illegal scheme š
Would you believe me if I said this bad guy’s name was just an insult Spy gal threw at him?
I wouldn’t say it’s completely unlikely we’ll be seeing Senor Cockfight at some point. And good point about his front–I hadn’t thought about it like that.
I was, as well as pretty much everyone else, NOT expecting a time jump at the chapter’s end, and I must say it’s REALLY interesting! Sorry for not wishing you a Happy Birthday in time, Brock. Hope you had a great one!
I know I’m not the only one who feels relieved that Spy gal and Jerry have decided to have a bit more empathy towards the other. Then again, Spy gal was always practical and it’s only logical she’d not relinquish more allies against the alien occupation.
And, boy, has Lobo put on some weight!
Lobo! Not the intention with Suckface, but I see it. Glad you’re enjoying the new direction!
Too many unanswered questions from the last chapter.
Is that a complaint or an acknowledgement?
I’m assuming gaps will be filled in later on. It’s more of a statement of confusion.
I listened the interview and was great. May I take my guess and think that Dr. Rocket passed away due his illness and therefore the Captain couldn’t overturn Zurida so he is staying in her side?
Thanks for listening! Glad you enjoyed it. Loving the speculation. You will know Doc’s exact status shortly. An off-panel death? That would certainly be unexpected.
I actually remember Suckface’s introduction. I love the detail that the rotund rogue needs two hover scooters. I going to venture some not so crazy speculation and guess this isn’t going to turn out well for him. I’m also wondering if what Jerry is working on has to do with Mr Crooks doomsday plan.
Credit to Marc for making Suckface fat and in need of two hover sleds. I love that detail as well.
Well. Didn’t see THAT coming. Like I said two strips ago Brock, you tend to make me forget that you DO have plot points are *only* implied. You do those so (seemingly?) infrequently that they end up being sneakily introduced plot points anyway. š Brock/Marc/whoever has the credit for Sam’s new look- That shirt. The Russian bear. I like it!
Marc gets almost all the credit for Sam’s new look. My only participation there is the white eyepatch. And I agree, going Russian and less Soviet is a great progression!
He even got a new hat!
Oh I didn’t realise that there was another mention of Suckface on SF 398
Whoa! I forgot about that!
[…] likes to eat people) are, of course, alternate versions of the ones we know from Earth-Abaddon. Our Suckface is one of Zurida’s lieutenants (so… where is he?), while our Master Masticate was killed by Tangerine back in the […]
