Some great, great discussion in Monday’s strip. I love that this little comic that started out as just a gagfest can inspire such great debate about such important things like temptation, what is right and wrong, and what makes a hero. I actually did post quite a few more comments than what you’ll see currently in the comments section over there, but I deleted them about an hour later because I felt like my slightly more definitive views on Tangerine’s state of mind were inhibiting conversation rather than promoting it. You guys didn’t need me at all.
Today, of course, sets Tangerine’s fate off into a completely different direction. Last we saw Pilatius, Dark Maiden and Bezuel, they were taking off for the stars. What do you guys think they want with Tangerine?
Hey! SuperFogeys made it to Round 2 of the TGT Tournament and it needs your votes to keep going. Yay for fighting off temptation. Yet what a twist into the story of Tangerine.
I wonder how he will take the news of the death of one of his sons ? 🙁
Tangerine already found out about The Healer’s death back in SF 451 – http://superfogeys.com/2012/10/22/451-will-tangerine-help/ and it didn’t exactly move him off his perch. Will anything?
“Will anything?”
You are the writer, you tell us!
Kidnapping Tangerine and taking his hand. Evil mind-controlled Tangerine coming up.
I love the way the damage from previous attacks gets patched over. They’ve got repair ninjas patching things up while they fight off the bad guys.
It’s true. They keep trying to plug those holes, but it’s just not quite working. Poor Valhalla repair crew.
didn’t saw that coming. And it is awesome! Maybe they want them to track Jerry and kill due the way that he deals with evil….BTW how did the brain in the jar crawled forth and back in that tunnel?
Bezuel (the brain in the jar) floats, so rocky or uneven terrain is no problem.
oh that’s nice (but still, he can’t hug her daughter!)
It’s true. You’d think Bezuel would have installed some arms or something. Hey, I don’t think he wants hug AT ALL!
Brock, this is why I read this strip. You keep surprising me, and that ain’t easy. Mad props, dude.
Thanks, Greg! We’ll do our best to keep surprising you.
Wow, I am surprised too. What do they want with him? Can’t get a walnut open?
Dang it, Will! Now I have to think of another reason.
Nice move. I did NOT see that coming. Also, nice showing that he’d walked away in the first panel. This IS a big struggle for him.
It’s huge. I think anyone who struggles with a big temptation like that can identify. I know a lot of people think Tangerine should just take up arms and not take it all the way to killing, but it’s really not that simple. Imagine saying the same thing to an alcoholic. “Just one drink… and then stop.” You would NEVER do that. You wouldn’t even suggest the possibility.
Tangerine is a murderholic.
A highly interesting turn of events. The last time I recall seeing Pilatius he was extolling the need to dispose of Star Maiden and here they are working together. I guess he decided to postpone the double cross for now, which may work out for him since Zurida’s up to a triple cross. I think gnrrg is probably right about the Evil Brainwashed Tangerine, but I’m wondering about the cybernetic hand. Pilatius is capable of making the Power Crystal and with Bezuel the Guthrie. You’ve got two top tier mad scientists who should be able to make Tangerine an even better artificial murder appendage. So do they need the hand for some other reason? Also, I can understand he found his faith, but I’ve been wondering for a while what’s up with Tangerine’s choir robe and sandals outfit? Is that all Jerry would give him to wear? If so, Jerry is even crueler then I thought. Or is it just easier for him to get in and out of minus an arm? No shoe tying or buttons.
Tangerine has been on kind of a slow journey and the robe and all that is kind of his way of dressing the outer vessel to look more like the inner vessel. But you make a great point about how much easier it would be to dress that way if you’re missing an arm.
Who ‘nose’ why they need him? 🙂
They´re gonna turn him to the dark side, aren´t they?
