Commentary
While not exactly visually resplendent, I wanted to revisit something here (both artistically and from a character standpoint) that I hadn’t shown since chapter one: that in Valhalla “things are different” and mortal enemies can play a game of chess together without too much trouble. Plus, I got to redraw panel 4 of the first episode of Chapter 1. Goodness knows that needed to be done.
Dr. Rocket’s line at then end here is a good callback to Chapter 1 as well. Since Dr. Rocket’s story was about to come full circle, it was important to remind readers just how far we’ve come.
Also, the whole chess thing is lifted entirely from the end of the first “X-men” movie. Clearly.
Big News
I’ve got three items of BIG, BIG Tall Tale Features news (that’s the new cartoonists collective I belong to) below. (After that I’ll pick it up with the tease for next week!)
ITEM TO SIT AT YOUR MOTHER’S GRAVE BY!
Tall Tale Features is proud to announce their newest member–Chip Skelton’s “Broken!” This won’t come as any shock to anyone around these parts as I’ve been doing more than hinting that Chip had joined up, but as of today you can find a news post about it at the TTF site (written by yours truly, although there’s no credit saying such) and “Broken” is now officially part of the roster.
How does “Broken” fit in with TTF when it’s a collective largely made up of newspaper-style strips? You’ll have to read the post to find out!
ITEM OF MOUNUMENTAL UNBELIEVABLOSITY!
The dictionary gods may strike me down for that particular bit of boldface type, BUT I DON’T CARE BECAUSE THIS NEWS DESERVES A NEW WORD!
Heard of “Bloom County?” “Outland?” “Opus?” What about Pulitzer Prize Winner Berkeley Breathed? Yeah, that guy.
Through some miracle of cartooning synergy and thanks in no small part to the honorary “Fifth Beatle” of Tall Tale Features, Tom Racine, we HAVE AN INTERVIEW WITH BERKELEY BREATHED GOING UP AT TALL TALE FEATURES.COM ON MONDAY!!
Each of us got a chance to ask one question–just one question–of the distinguished Mr. Breathed and he answered them all! And fast! I think we submitted them two days ago, and we’ve already got all his responses back.
Wait’ll you see what I asked him. I think I embarrassed myself.
ITEM NOT AS COOL AS AN INTERVIEW WITH BERKE BREATHED BUT STILL PRETTY NEAT!
On Tuesday, July 24th, the TTF crew is doing something pretty special. We’re calling it “Comic Swap.” Each TTF member has been assigned to write and draw another member’s comic and we’ll be posting the results on Tuesday! More on that then, but I wanted to at least give an early heads-up. Monday and Tuesday are gonna be HUGE on TTF!
Next Week:
Dictator Tot returns and a huge explosion!
