I’ve been much encouraged by the way Soviet Sam has been accepted by the majority of you since his proper introduction to the strip in SF 322. In a story with A LOT of characters (seriously, the cast is getting too big. I gotta kill a few off), he’s managed to come in fairly late to the party and become a favorite of both yours and mine.
I think new characters are the lifeblood of any story (hello, Atomic Fly). It’s a rare work of fiction that can get by with just the core group talking to each other over and over again, but introducing new characters can be risky business if you don’t do it properly and they aren’t interesting enough. I know I’ve been fan of shows and comics that have tried to push unwanted characters on me. It’s not fun and it can really ruin your enjoyment of something you use to love. Here’s hoping that never happens with any new characters here… or that I have the sense to kill off the character before it does!
We’re getting near the end now. A week from today: the end of Chapter 16 – Invasion, Pt. 3: Secrets, Secrets are No Fun.
Remember my article The Jedi are Pricks: How Star Wars VII-IX Can Make the Prequels Retroactively Better? Mega movie news site Slashfilm picked it up and included it in one of their daily Page 2 articles. How cool is that?
I feel like the fan love for Soviet Sam is equal parts story and the way he’s drawn.
Can’t disagree with that. TL Collins did a phenomenal job conceiving his design and Marc has really taken it and made it his own.
I must say it maybe an interesting talk between Sam and Tangerine, given how their lives have turned out.
Yes. Not too long ago… Tangerine may have straight up killed Soviet Sam.
Atomic Fly taking clean house literally. Was he a sidekick at one time?
Soviet Sam’s new power – ending pity parties.
Not much is known about Atomic Fly. If I had to speculate, I might say he was known for his frequent team-ups.
This Lupron thing is really diseitssrng. I mean, when people’s bodies stop making testosterone it can lead to feelings of listlessness, no drive to do anything that’s not something you should inflict on someone lightly. Also, it’s creepy that they’re giving this to people to get rid of their sexual behaviors. Like, the guy mentioned in the article, the 18-year-old, he’s definitely old enough to be in control of his sexuality. It bothers me that his parents would just step in and decide for him that his sexuality is inconvenient and it should go away.
If employer-provider hetalh care was no longer tax-free OR if ANY insurance purchased by anyone on the open market – was not taxed – then many folks might well obtain something other than what the employer provides – as long as they could still buy insurance.Unfortunately, many people would not be able to obtain insurance in the open market. Anyone with expensive-looking conditions included age would end up going “bare” and then depend on EMTALA and MedicAid.If not mistaken, not only is employer-provided insurance not taxed but it is also written off as an expense by the company.
Oh snap. Sending in the big guy.
“”Rather than coming up with new and ucrsneseany fees to charge their customers, airlines should focus on providing fair and transparent service – that’s what our common sense rules are designed to ensure.”how about “rather than being a bureaucratic numbnuts without the slightest inkling of how economics or business works, you should go get someone to explain opportunity cost to you.”if you up the risk of airlines getting stuck with unsold inventory that becomes valueless as soon as the plane takes off, they have to raise price to account for it or they lose profits.hotels do the same thing. even some restaurants require a credit card to hold a reservation.but no, you, DoT super genius that you are can suspend the laws of economics and make the world different then ride off into the sunset on your unicorn.seriously, who lets these fools regulate anything.
Ah, Soviet Sam, how can you not love that guy? I think you deserve another writer kudos for how he’s grown as a character. Have we met the lizard fellow with the rather bulbous cranium lurking behind him yet? Should Atomic Fly be that close to him? It kind of looks like he’s considering him as a snack.
Thanks, Andrew. The “lizard guy” is Swamp Magistrate. Yeah, we’ve seen him a few times before. If you click on his tag under this strip, you can see all of his appearances.
Waitaminute….. Didn’t I give you a dissertation on Tangerine’s need for redemption a few months ago? Lol. We really should actually collaborate.
I believe you did. But does that mean redemption is coming? We shall see…
I really love this comic! Since the first strip, I have been hooked on this. Great job!
Thanks, Jimmy! Welcome to the party.
Exhaustion should be adssreded clearly on legislative level in a different way, depending on the specific subject-matter, the nature of the products, the relationship between the product seller and the right-holder (the kind of licence agreements) and other factors. Just compare copyright on imported books (or image on watches) v. copyright on Dali’s ‘The Persistence of Memory’; or Pharma’s trademarks, foodstuff trademarks v. sport ware and mascara trademarks. The present situation does not satisfy and there are too much stakes pledged on the courts to resolve this problem by way of interpretation with unwarranted great expectations. Judges are not capable to focus on these subtleties in trade and economics regarding their background.
B.: I thought the book was okay, I gave it three hteras. I do adore, adore the cover! ;)@Ivana: It’s one of my favourites too. I have so many favourite series I can’t choose. lol. But, it’s high on the list! Love that song too!
Ha, I ought to have seen this one coming. By Sam’s definitions way back in 323/324, Tangerine – even the new, violence-averse Tangerine – is still much more a villain than a hero. Maybe Sam will help him to get over himself. 😉
