Last Wednesday’s strip generated some great discussion about what Dr. Rocket and Zurida are up to. Today’s strip should provide those answers handily. Those of you with good memories should recall that Zurida saw Jerry quite clearly when she “visited” Valhalla in the previous chapter. Zurida’s invitation to Dr. Rocket to enter her palace kicks off a run of strips that are my favorite in this chapter, leading into the big 500. Hope you enjoy.
Hope everybody had a great Easter! (Or a good Sunday, if Easter’s not your thing.) In all cases, Happy April Fool’s Day! No jokes from me today. The last time I pulled an April Fool’s joke was in high school when I convinced some friends my dad had died and I was despondent. I was too convincing and they got pretty mad at me. Lesson learned: no one like a dark joke.
I have to say, Dr. Rocket is one if my favorite villains ever. He’s just a really well-developed character, but no matter how much we learn about him he always has another secret and another plan. Looking forward to seeing where he’s going with all this.
George, that’s super nice of you to say. I hope you dig what Doc does next!
Okay, now I’m curious to see why Zurida saved the doctor and what’s his overall gameplan ? š
You’ll find out why she saved him next week! As for Doc’s plan… that comes later.
Where’s the window with the little man in it telling them they can’t enter? This is the Emerald City isn’t it?
We need a thumbs up button.
I’m glad she saved the rabbit too. She’s not so cruel…..
Zurida’s a sweetheart. She’s also a great cook.
Riffing off of gnrrg, the Doc is probably about to meet a horse of a different color
Well, bust my buttons.
Another superb job by Marc. You do a great job changing perspective and conveying motion. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you succumb to the pitfall of deformed anatomical perspective in any of your work, which is really quite impressive. Love Harvey’s expression in panel 3. You can practically hear him thinking “This indignity will not be forgotten!” Speaking of, I have to wonder what Harvey thinks of everything that’s been going on. Unless he was just born a very special rabbit Dr Rocket must have augmented him at some point. We’ve seen him engaged in advanced mechanical engineering and – although it happened “off screen” – kill a zombie with a knife. He would have to possess an intelligence exceeding an average human. If the Doc really is dying, how does Harvey feel about that? They’ve been together for what now, about 60 or 70 years? What happens to poor Harvey if Dr Rocket dies? Go live with Miss Missile? Harvey seems like the type who might resent her for drawing some of the Doc’s limited supply of affection from him. I lobby for a return to “Origins” so we can have a ” The Life and Times of Harvey the Science Rabbit”! As for Dr Rocket, after seeing how expertly he played Zurida, I wonder if he’s been manipulating Jerry this whole time. He would have kept Herman under some kind of surveillance all those years. Maybe he knew he was Dr Klein this whole time and would never kill Tom. Maybe it was all part of some master plan. Also, Mwahahaha! Dr Rocket lives! Now for the rematch with Pilatius in: “The Interstellar Battle of the Geriatric Mad Scientists!”.
I’m glad you mentioned Marc’s use of perspective. He handles it so well that I think it’s easy to overlook how often and how well he does it.
Love the Doc Rocket theories! You are right to never count him out.
