Marc went with a very-different-than-normal approach to this strip and it works like gangbusters. (Which is an expression I’ve never really understood. If gangbusters work so well, why do don’t we have less gangs?) Fairly big shakeup today. And you thought Monday’s strip was big.
Only two strips left in this chapter! Come back for the exciting conclusion next week! And don’t forget to read the next page of SuperFogeys Babies this Friday.
It definitely seems like the new generation of super heroes was a step down in every way from the older one: Power(obviously), commitment, and bravery. But especially power.
It would certainly seem so, but then we don’t get to really see them use their powers, do we? Which is just about the most inept way I can possibly imagine going out.
The time to use their powers might have been about when they were huddled together, cowering in fear. Also, Ninja Lina should have been unstoppable due to The Law of Inverse Ninja Strength! Poor show, Lina. Poor show.
Well, there goes Swifty’s last hope for the world and Stargirl to be saved. š
I hope there are other heroes that owe Swifty some favors to help him out. š
I think heroes are in pretty short supply in the SuperFogeys universe. We’re doomed.
Frame 4:
BENDER
Dooooooooooommed!
SFX
Brick falling to the ground.
Maybe we would have even more gangs if things didn’t work like gangbusters. I don’t think it means that gangbusters are all-effective; if they were there would be NO gangs.
A fair point. Maybe I’m just not fully appreciating what we already have.
On the bright side, maybe she’ll burn herself out and be easier to defeat. And unicorns fart rainbows.
Dude, unicorns should ABSOLUTELY fart rainbows. If they did it any other way, I’d be disappointed.
I didn’t know this before this AM, but per Wikipedia, it’s a reference to a radio program named Gang Busters that opened with very loud and distinctive credits (sirens, whistles, gunfire). Thus to “come in like Gang Busters” meant to arrive with lots of noise and fanfare.
Thanks for the research! Thanks to you, we all learned something today. The more you know…
I have learned today that the comic SuperFogeys is about how all the old people have interesting lives and all the young people die.
Did you just say that the SuperFogeys is most original, groundbreaking coimic–nay, story–in the world? I think you did.
We’re Still missing cap and zurida’s son he hasn’t returned from his little excursion to find dr. rocket using the DNA scanner that he was given…which makes me wonder how he’s going to tie into all this ESPECIALLY since the only trace of dr. rocket’s DNA will lead him to Valhalla….and ultimately his pops…
(thinking WAY AHEAD ON THIS!!!!)
Also IF he finds dr. rocket he’ll also find tom…which in turn is his half brother…(CAN someone PLEASE make super fogeys into a movie!!!!! I’d PAY $$$$$$ to see this on the big screen!!!!)
Drew, you’re not thinking too far ahead… While we won’t see the result of Percy’s search in this chapter, you’ll definitely see him in the next.
And, YES, that would be money well spent. I STILL think SF would make for a great animated series.
I second that thought on an animated series!
Holy Canole this is a phenomenal strip and a huge turning point in the life of Star Maiden. She is definitely a weapon not to be messed with. Seeing all these deaths and pinnacle moments I’m waiting on someone to wake up and realize this was just another of Bob Newhart’s dreams. š
Not gonna happen, my friend. (Though that’s a great moment in television history.) No reset button either. This all happened and will continue to have happened. The question is… what happens next?
Well, shucks! There goes my time travel theory…
Well, what exactly did happen? All may not be as it appears. Brock is pretty sneaky.
Where’s the “like” button?
Wow. I didn’t even know who any of them were to even care if they died or not, but you killed them. You really killed them. All of them. Now I’ll never know why that man was crying. lol
The Healer was the only one I cared about. Slightly for Cap 2, but only because I wanted to know how he gets his hair to stay like that. Oh, and, uh, how Cap 1 ever allowed him to succeed him?
I really need to tell that story someday, don’t I?
I been meaning to ask, what’s with the baby fogeys up top?
The babies in the header are in honor of the current SF Origins story, “SuperFogeys Babies.” Artists Denver and Jeff thought it would a fun change to the site for a spell, and I thought it was a great idea. Hope you’ve had a chance to check that story out!
At the time of my earlier posting, I had not! Since then I have seen the Baby Fogeys, and I’m loving the artwork and concept so far!
Scary! Dark Maiden’s death beams remind me of Dr. Manhattan (what with the exposed skeletons and all). Very awesome strip!
Yes! Dr. Manhattan! It’s exactly like that, isn’t it? Tells you what kind of power Dark Maiden wields.
I was thinking the effects look more like the Martian deathrays in Mars
Attacks!
If the 2nd Generation just squandered Money Man’s trust fund I’m glad they’re dead. Wouldn’t mind if CSII survived now — if he mans up some. Still, there really should be some sort of competent young character. It’s far too unbalanced as is.
Agreed. Though Dictator Tot was pretty competent. Relatively speaking.
It’s things like this that make SF great. I mean, it’s already been said. You killed them. You really killed them.
And panel 2 is probably one of my most favorite panels in SF ever.
Thanks very much, Karen! Yes, they’re really dead. And agreed… Marc KILLED it on the this one. (Ooh… bad pun.)
And by the way–I didn’t kill them. Dark Maiden did.
Fine. You HAD them killed. You evil, evil man. lol
Time for M.M. to save the day! Bring on the rapping that saved the world and drove the villains away.
Aaaaand THERE are the singed silhouettes on the concrete.
But I’m not making predictions on this comic anymore. Nope. Not me. Uh uh.
thinking some more on this…dark maiden killing tangerines kid…well that may send him back over the edge into a killing machine doling out punishment as he sees fit!
well what if she isn’t killing them but transporting them to somewhere else, so that Zurida doesn’t kill them for real? maybe she is going to come out in the end as a real hero. thats just my theory.
Like how Darkseid didn’t kill Batman but sent him into the distant past, despite us seeing his body decentigrate into a skeleton and go *poof*? Yeah, that didn’t make a LICK of sense, lol
