Hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving (those of us in the U.S.)!
This page, in case you haven’t guessed, is fairly significant. Remember, this story was drawn years ago (for print, this is its first time in its entirety on the web), way before the big Third Man reveal. Artist Lucas Turnbloom had no idea he how significant this page was, nor that he was actually drawing the Third Man’s origin. This scene has been since revisited twice, once when The Third Man got a chance to confront Captain Spectacular years later, and again as part of Jerry’s origin (spoilers if you haven’t read the big reveal from last year!)
Probably could have saved himself a lot of trouble if he just said “Dude, I teleport, OK?”
Ah, ah, ah. Read that power description a little more carefully. Of course, I do believe the next page clarifies this point a little.
I was about to say the same thing. But he doesn’t really teleport, does he? It’s more of an interdimensional doorway that needs a physical surface. So far he’s used walls and floors to move himself. There’s also that bit where Jerry shocked Tom, but I think that was for show only. He might have moved Tom through the floor while everyone was blinded. Anyway he still could’ve been more direct about his abilities with CS. But it probably was part of Jerry’s plan to not be his sidekick as the Third Man. He should have known he wouldn’t get chosen because most likely old Jerry told him about it, right?
P.S. Happy late Thanksgiving, Brock. I certainly am thankful that this webcomic exists.
Thanks, Javier! And you’re close–very close–as far as how the power works.
I dunno man…. I always felt that 3rd Man there never got a terribly fair shake and that his power was a little bit underrated and under-appreciated. It’s a pretty darned useful power. Sure, slightly obscure and unusual? But not completely invaluable if you’ve got the know-how and the knowledge and creativity. I think Spectacular was being a bit of a prick about a lot of things back then tho….
I agree. His power isn’t really all that bad. It’s kept him alive all these years, that’s for sure.
Wait, wait, wait. I feel stupid now. Because I just now realized or thought something stupid, but Third Man could have been Captain’s third sidekick after Doctor and Jerry or that he would have been third man on trio of Captain, Jerry and Third Man. I know the name itself is reference to a movie, but I guess this is the reason why Jerry picked the name. (Also I don’t remember if this has been brought before so I may be making fool of myself, dammit)
Maybe if he had used name Second Man, then maybe…
I will present you with this rebuttal:
“Who does Number 2 work for??!”
I have a small handful of theories as to why he could be calling himself The 3rd man myself but they’re all probably pretty out there. I don’t think there was a genuine and specified canon reasoning as to his choice of name…… BUT then again there could have been and I may have completely missed it. I do enjoy a healthy dose of speculation tho. Nothing better than a mystery.
Because he works for Th3rdWorld Studios, derrrr… lol
Since mystery is fun, I will be silent.
