Today begins a new SuperFogeys Origin story that will be a tad bit familiar to those of you who own SF Volume 1 (where this story first appeared), but it’s appearing online in its entirety for the first time.
Artist Lucas Turnbloom is well-known the comics world, with two very successful webcomics in Imagine This and 4G. Do yourself a favor and check ’em both out!
To me, it seems like the Usher’s power would be pretty useful for a superhero’s sidekick.
Too true. Unless there aren’t any bystanders. Then he kind of sucks.
This story has a quite different feeling nowadays. And that’s just marvelous.
I’m curious what you mean by that. I think I agree, but what’s your take?
HA! This was so much fun to do. Fun seeing it again. thanks for the plug, Brock!
Anytime, man. I’ve always loved this one. Happy to share it with the world.
We’re gonna need another Timmy.
I feel like that’s a reference I know, but I just CANNOT call it up.
Dinosaurs. Point for me. š
Hah – loving the Elvis quiff on Captain Spectacular…
It’s been a while, but I THINK that was something Lucas threw in there. I thought it pretty hilarious myself.
This is destined to be a fun one. I love the art too. Definitely sets the mood.
Yeah, I think you know right away, just from the art, not to take this story too seriously. Of course, they meant a lot of people missed the clues coming on page 2.
Lucas doing the guest origins! I’m SOLD Heck yeah!
This is far from the best page. There’s a page coming later on where Lucas just kicks it into high gear.
Thanks, everyone. I did this so long ago, I actually cringe a little at the art. My style has changed SO much since then. (You’d never guess by looking at today’s Imagine THIS, though.)
Ah, you’re too hard on yourself. True, I’ve seen you do better work since this story, but you imbue your art with so much PERSONALITY. And that’s why people keep coming back to you.
And thus, the Usher becomes evil at being turned away from CS.. just like all others CS cast aside… Where is he now? Ushering a new reign of Evil… A man who instinctively knows when there is danger, and can herd civilians into it, or usher the guards carrying large amounts of money to his evil lair, all of them taken over by the Usher’s ultimate super power… Herd Mentality
BTW.. this ability was passed down though the ages, the most famous Usher being.. Pied Piper
Pied Piper… of course! The Usher is probably a distant relative.
Brock? Do me a favor.. first.. look at Superfogies 265 and 266.. not on your records, on the site.. There ya go.. See it? Good! I accept cameos of myself in your comic as payment š
Fixed! Thanks for the heads-up. I had no idea!
